Based upon Aristotle's holistic notion i.e., "a whole is more than the sum of its integral parts", the Systems thinking has its genesis in the works of Ludvig von Bertalanffy and peers in early 1950s.
Revered Prof. P.S. Satsangi Sahab, having excelled in the field of Applied Systems Research during His post-graduation in Michigan State University and Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral research at University of Waterloo, brought His expertise to India in 1970. The earliest efforts of disseminating the know-how of Applied Systems Research in India by Prof. P.S. Satsangi can be traced back to the "First Sequential Advanced School in Systems Engineering" at IIT, Delhi and the National systems conference, both in 1973. Considered as the Father of Systems Movement in India, He has successfully demonstrated the application of Systems Theory to the complete spectrum of diverse systems ranging from Type-1 Physical systems to Type-4 Esoteric Systems.
Systems Society of India (SSI) was formally registered in 1982 as a 'professional body' of distinguished Engineers and Scientists from Engineering, Science, Social Studies & Arts disciplines with Prof. P.S. Satsangi as the Founder President. The society promotes advancement of theory, research, application & practice keeping in view the holistic systems approach for the advancement of humankind.
With the objective to advance the study of Systems Science and Engineering and related subjects and promote their applications, particularly relevant to the needs of the country and to disseminate knowledge pertaining to theory and applications of Systems Science and Engineering, National Systems Conference is organised every year at reputed Institutions. In the past NSC has been hosted by Institutions like VSSC, ISAC, IISC, IITs, DRDO, NIT, BHU, JNTU and Dayalbagh Educational Institute etc.
